"Smash-Up: The Story of a Woman" is a 1947 American drama film directed by Stuart Heisler and starring Susan Hayward in the leading role. The film explores the life and struggles of its protagonist, Angie Evans, played by Hayward, as she navigates the challenges of fame, alcoholism, and a failing marriage.
The story revolves around Angie, a talented nightclub singer who dreams of becoming a successful actress. She meets and falls in love with Ken Conway, a charming and successful songwriter, played by Lee Bowman. They marry and have a daughter, but Angie's career aspirations take a backseat to her role as a wife and mother.
As the years go by, Angie's husband, Ken, becomes more successful while she is relegated to the role of a housewife. Frustrated and feeling unfulfilled, Angie turns to alcohol to cope with her unhappiness. Her addiction leads to a downward spiral, damaging her marriage and her relationship with her daughter.
